Learning to read is an exciting adventure for the young child if it is presented as such. At the back of Tom’s Visit to the Land of Letters there are teaching hints for the adult who is reading the book with the child.
It is recommended that the book Tom’s Visit to the Land of Letters , which introduces the very young child to the whole alphabet and the sounds that the letters make, be used in conjunction with All About A and Then There Was T. This book is intended to teach the basics of blending sounds to create words and the concept of left to right progression during the process of reading.
On the first few pages of All About A and Then There Was T the letter ‘a’ is put before a picture so that the child will become familiar with reading by saying the sound of ‘a’ and name of the picture. In the second part of the book ‘t’ and its sound is introduced and the phrase, “A (picture of a creature) at a (location)” is presented. Congratulations are in order because the child is now reading and should feel proud of this accomplishment.
Tom's Bird Watching and Tom's Animals and Other Living Things are books that the child will enjoy reading with an adult – hopefully over and over again. |
